KUSP II (Kenya Urban Support Program Phase II) is a government-led initiative aimed at strengthening urban governance, improving infrastructure, and enhancing service delivery in municipalities across Kenya. The program focuses on institutional strengthening, planning and resilience, inclusive infrastructure, private sector engagement, and refugee-host community integration to create sustainable and livable cities.
KUSP II operates in 45 counties across Kenya, supporting municipalities in urban planning, infrastructure development, and capacity building. The program is designed to assist urban areas facing rapid growth and development challenges by providing financial and technical support.
The program finances the construction and upgrading of roads, non-motorized transport (NMT) pathways, stormwater drainage systems, markets, bus parks, fire stations, street lighting, and waste management facilities to improve urban living conditions and promote sustainable growth.
KUSP II promotes Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to encourage private sector investment in urban infrastructure, smart city solutions, and sustainable development projects. The program facilitates partnerships in areas such as affordable housing, waste management, renewable energy, and digital service delivery to enhance efficiency and innovation.
The program integrates refugee-hosting municipalities into its development framework by supporting infrastructure projects, social inclusion initiatives, and economic opportunities that benefit both refugees and host communities. This approach ensures equitable access to services, economic integration, and sustainable urban development in these regions.
Strengthening the capacity of urban institutions to deliver resilient infrastructure and inclusive services, fostering sustainable urban development across Kenya.
